Girl Scouts Irish Hills Council Troop 245 with their leader, Lori Gardner, and Fudge, a 9-month-old guinea pig.

Sunday, June 08, 2008

How the pet entered your lives: Scout Amelia Gardner was joking last year about getting a Troop pet. The Scouts talked more seriously, researched their pet options and voted on getting a guinea pig. Fudge, donated by Girl Scout Tiffany Dorer's uncle, stays with each Scout for two weeks, during which time she feeds, cleans and cares for him. The girls keep a journal about Fudge's visit to their homes, and he's helped them earn their Pet Care badges.

Favorite activity to share together: Fudge is sociable. The girls say he likes playing with other guinea pigs and gets along with dogs, cats and rabbits. He enjoys running around in a bathtub and walking around in a ball.

Pet's favorite toys: A wooden house, a ball and toilet paper.

Pet's usual sleeping spot: Inside or on top of his house.

What quality the girls love most about their pet: His company. He's cute and lively and always jumps and squeaks when you come home. He's warm and fuzzy and active.

Do you consider your pet a member of the family? Yes. We each love him and care for him. He's like a brother to us. He comes to every Troop meeting and is part of our families.
