Catholic Charities
The Personal Needs and
Linen Closet (PNLC) is a program of Catholic Charities of Jackson
County. This program provides personal and
household necessities to members of our community who struggle to afford
the basic products, that many of us take for granted. The PNLC is open
Fridays from 9 AM -12 Noon, and is located at 407 S. Mechanic. People in
need can come in and get these products free of charge. It is a constant
challenge to keep our shelves stocked. The items we give away are
supplied by donations, and items purchased with our limited funds from
the Food Bank.
We ask you, our dear
friends in the community, to consider helping us with the ongoing
challenge of keeping the shelves of the PNLC stocked. This can be done
by taking up regular donations at your place of work, your Church, or
your home. Any onetime donation is greatly appreciated. If you can
organize a weekly, monthly, bi-annual collection of items it would be
very helpful as well. Your donation of items would go a long way towards
helping those we serve realize the dignity which is inherent in each
person but not always felt. Following is a list of items we constantly
need.

Recycling
DID YOU KNOW?
THE AVERAGE AMERICAN CELL PHONE USER OWNS 3 OR
MORE CELL PHONES.
THE AVERAGE LIFE SPAN OF A CELL PHONE IS 18 MONTHS
130 MILLION CELL PHONES
WILL BECOME OBSOLETE OR DISCARDED THIS YEAR ALONE
AN ESTIMATED 75% OF
OBSOLETE CELL PHONES ARE STOCKPILED IN DRAWERS BY PEOPLE WHO DON’T
KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM
CELL PHONES CONTAIN MANY TOXIC MATERIALS SUCH
AS ARSENIC.COPPER,ZINC A ND BROMINATED FLAME RETARDANTS WHICH WOULD
FILTER INTO THE AIR AND GROUNDWATER SUPPLY IF DISPOSED OF IN
LANDFILLS
SURVEYS SUGGEST THAT 90% OF AMERICANS WOULD
RECYCLE THEIR USED CELL PHONE IF IT WAS CONVENIENT
Would your troop or community would like to
participate in a cell phone recycling project? The council has
prepaid shipping boxes. You can either use this as a troop or
community fundraiser by filling out the appropriate forms and
stopping by the Service Center for supplies or as a service project
by collecting the phones and turning them into the council.
For more information, please contact Priscilla Smith at the Service
Center: 800.322.1209 or 517.784.8543.
